May Professional in the Spotlight
Stacey O'Dell

Profession: Steuben Council on Addictions

Employer: Prevention Educator

Hometown: Canisteo, NY

Why did I choose this profession?

I was the Asst. Principal's secretary at Addison HS but had my degree in Substance Abuse Services and Criminal Justice and wanted to do something with it I had looked at working at other agencies but loved what the Council was all about and it was a perfect fit with my degree.

What do I love most about my job?

I have so many favorites about my job but the biggest would be the wide-variety of people that I get to work with and interact with so no day in my week is ever the same. My other big favorite is our monthly staff luncheons where we all make food to share, it's awesome and always so yummy!

What was a pivotal moment in my career?

What is the best advice I have received related to my field?

Networking is the most useful thing that I have learned to do efficiently and that works in our agency. We are fortunate to network with many other agencies in and outside of out county that do similar things as we do and when they hear of new trends or learn new information they are quick to send it along to us.

Why would I recommend someone to this field?

When not working, I enjoy the following:

In my spare time love to be with my 8 year old Caleb. I am also very active in my church as the director of student ministries, helping with 4H (Blue Ribbon Round-up) and being the promotional secretary for the Canisteo-Greenwood Elementary PTO and their activities.
