CORNING-- The Steuben Teen Pregnancy Prevention Task Force will host an “Adolescent Health and Wellness Conference” at the Corning Radisson on Friday May 14th from 8:30-3:30pm. The conference is held for educators, health and human service workers, and parents alike.
Conference topics include training and certification in the “BodyWorks” adolescent fitness and nutrition evidence-based program, taught by Kelli Mannon from the Steuben Rural Health Network. Innovative teaching methods for sex education will be presented by Tammy Miller, Director of Education at the Southern Finger Lakes Planned Parenthood. Julie Charlanow from the Steuben County Community Services will discuss alcohol and substance abuse in teens. Janis Whitlock, from the Cornell Research Program on Self-Injurious Teens, will present about self-injury and adolescents. Anika Allegra, from AIDS Care, will discuss Lesbian/Gay/Bi-Sexual/Transgender and Intersex Health Issues amongst adolescents. The Teen Parent panel, organized by Pro Action of Steuben and Yates, will also present issues of sexuality and parenthood from teens’ perspectives.
