SRHN Helps Steuben OFA Receive State Grant
Posted on 7/16/2009BATH -- The Steuben County Office for the Aging recently received news that it had received one of fifteen grants awarded in NY state for senior services planning.
The $25,000 grant award will allow the Office for the Aging and the Steuben Senior Services Fund to conduct neighborhood-based surveys of communities across Steuben County, and to build local leader teams to define and build services needed within each community.
The Community Empowerment Grants are state-funded initiatives to help counties plan or implement plans that link senior or caregiver services to communities. The result of these improved linkages are that seniors can remain in their own homes longer, staving off the need to enter nursing homes or more institutional care. This concept is referred to as "aging in place."
The project was developed with the grant planning assistance of the Steuben Rural Health Network, directly addressing an activity from Objective 1.a. of the 2009 Work Plan: "Support the utilization and viability of existing senior services, including LTC and assisted living facilities, rehabilitation services, caregiver support services, and respite care."
